Mini Idli With Sambar

2008 has started ....

Long holiday is over. So with a fresh mind for a fresh year....I had made Mini Idlies with Sambar for breakfast. Few of the bloggers / non bloggers asked question about idli (Water
proportionate) in my last post.

For 1 cup Idli rava, Add 1/2 cup warm water. Soak the idli rava before grinding the urad dal. For grinding the urad dal add 1 & 1/4 cup water. Ferment in a warm place for atleast 8 hrs.

Sambar Ingredients

1 cup Toor dal

1 onion(Finely chopped) or small sambar onions

Sambar powder - 2 tsp

Coconut - 1/2 cup

Tamarind - 1/2 tsp

Jaggery to taste

Salt to taste

Curry leaves - 1 stalk

For Seasoning :

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Asafoetida (Hing) a pinch

Oil - 1 tsP

Method

  • Grind /Blend the coconut and sambar powder, make a smooth paste adding a bit of water
  • Cook the toor dal and onions in a pressure cooker
  • Mix dal, onion, and sambar paste into the pan
  • Add 1 cup water, Add tamarind, jaggery and salt
  • Boil if for few minutes, Add curry leaves
  • Heat oil in a small pan, add mustard seeds allow to splutter
  • Add hing and pour it into the sambar.
  • Ready to serve with mini idlies

Mala, I think this is the first time for me here. First of all I liked your header.. It is sooo soothing. Next, I love mini idlis with sambar.. Never made them, but use to enjoy them in Chennai restraurants.. Should check in toronto, whether I can get a mini idli cooker. Happy New Year!!!

Oooh!! I love mini idlis!! I have an idli stand between the mini and the normal.. but these tiny ones are so much fun!! kids especially love them!

These are my hubby's favourite...he always orders them in hotels. Very nice of you to have put the proportions for water, i have never even tried measuring it till now.
