Upp Pongal / Khara Pongal






Ingredients
  • Rice / Aarshi / Akki- 1 cup
  • Moong dal / Paithuparppu / Hesarubele - 2 tbsp 
  • Black Pepper/ Molag / Menasu- 1 tsp, roasted
  • Jeera - 1 tsp, roasted
  • Asafoetida / Hing / Perungyam - 1/2 tsp 
  • Grated fresh coconut/ Thenga / Thenginaturi -  2 tbsp
  • Ghee /Nayi / Thuppa  - 3 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manje / Harishinapudi - 1 tsp
  • Cashews/ kodambi - 6 count, pieces (optional)
  • Salt to taste/ Upp
  • Water - 3 cups
Method
  1. Fry moong dal slightly 
  2. Rinse the  rice and mix dal and rice
  3. Add Turmeric powder, Water, Coconut, Ghee, Salt, hing place all the in a bowl and cook in the pressure cooker wait until 4 whistle. keep aside to cool down
  4. Roast Black pepper corns and make crush them few  and. 
  5. Fry Jeera seperately and add pepper and jeera to the pongal mix well
  6. Fry cashews into the ghee till golden in color
  7. Add cashews to the pongal 
Serve with Ghee or  Sugar or chutney.

Please post articles on what all things/items needs to be purchased for Karnataka brahmin wedding.Like pooja items, how to decorate and make nice items to be kept for vara pooje, dhare etc. how to make morada baagina, kashi yatre chatri, tamboola,aarathi plate etc look more beautiful..If not all atleast few posts when u find time... Thanks in advance... :-)
